Wireless Car play/ Android Auto compatible

The connection to iPhone/Android smartphones is completely wireless . Once you set up the wireless connection, it will automatically connect to your smartphone when you start the engine and start the HUD. You can use Carplay HUD automatically even if your smartphone is in your pocket or bag.

The appearance is also much neater now that there is no smartphone cable. There is no need to consider the wiring path for the smartphone cable, so there is more freedom in installing the HUD.

*Wireless connection to smartphones uses both Bluetooth and Wifi. Internet connection is made simultaneously via smartphone's 4G/5G connection.
*USB cable connection (with 0.5A power supply) is also possible.

Input on smartphone, display on HUD

Wireless connection to smartphones makes operation very easy.
Map destinations and music selections can be quickly entered on the smartphone at hand. The results are seamlessly displayed on the Car play screen of the HUD.

Instead of tedious voice or remote control input, you can use your smartphone as a remote control for the HUD , and just view the display on the HUD's easy-to-read screen.

Even while driving, you can hand your smartphone over to a passenger in the front or back seat and have them input their destination, which will then be displayed on the HUD navigation screen. Choosing music is just as easy.

*Carplay only. AndroidAuto maps cannot be used simultaneously with smartphones.
*Drivers are prohibited by law from operating or staring at smartphone screens while driving. Drivers must operate their smartphones only when the vehicle is stopped.

2.4GHz wireless steering remote control

The newly developed wireless remote control allows you to operate the car without taking your hands off the steering wheel . You can quickly move the cursor by turning the dial with your fingertips. You can also call up Siri/Google Assistant with the push of a button.

With a typical in-dash navigation system, CarPlay/AndroidAuto device, or smartphone, you have to take your hands off the steering wheel and touch the touch panel to operate it, which makes it dangerous and virtually impossible to operate while driving .

However, this product uses a HUD and steering remote control, allowing you to operate the device without taking your eyes off the road and holding the steering wheel firmly with both hands . (However, since staring at the screen while driving is prohibited by the Road Traffic Act, please be sure to keep your eyes on the surrounding traffic conditions even when operating the device.)

The communication between the remote control and HUD uses 2.4GHz wireless (Technical Approval Acquired), and the receiver is built into the HUD body. This allows for more stable and reliable remote control operation.
To attach to the steering wheel, simply wrap the included silicone rubber band around it and secure it, so you can easily install it in any position you like.

Smaller base (shipping from 2023/1/26 onwards)

The base has been made smaller, making it easier to install and giving it a smarter appearance. The size of the base is almost the same as the main unit, at 9cm wide and 15cm deep.
In addition, a screw has been added to the back of the base, making it easier to adjust the angle.

Google Maps as a car navigation system

Aren't traditional car navigation systems really hard to use? Once you get used to using a smartphone, even setting your destination is a hassle and difficult to understand. Voice input is also inaccurate and can sometimes give you ridiculous directions...

With HUD-2023, you can use the map on your smartphone as your car navigation system. Not only can you use Apple's original map , but you can also use Google Maps , and even third-party apps such as Yahoo! Car Navigation and Car Navi Time.* Because it's a smartphone map, unlike car navigation systems, you don't have to pay for data updates. You can immediately access the latest information, such as newly built roads and shops.

Route guidance is overlaid on your field of vision while driving, so you can safely check your route without having to keep your eyes on the road.

*Currently, only Google Maps can be used with Android Auto.

Listen to music on your smartphone while driving

I want to listen to music on my smartphone while driving!
It's something everyone wants, but it wasn't that easy. My car is old and doesn't have an audio input terminal, and I can't operate my smartphone while driving, so even if I think, "That song is perfect for this mood or this scene!", I can't play it right away.

It's super easy with the HUD-2023. It comes with an FM transmitter , so you can easily listen to music from your smartphone through the FM car audio even in older cars.

To select a song, just tell a voice assistant such as Siri to "play XX." There's no need to go through the trouble of selecting an artist name from a huge list, then the song title, etc. You can also check the name of the song being played on the HUD screen without taking your eyes off the road.

You can also listen to music subscription services such as Apple Music and Spotify, so your music library is truly limitless. You can play music that suits any situation, scenery, or mood.

What is an FM transmitter?

This function transmits music via FM radio waves, like a small FM radio station. By receiving the signal through the FM radio in your car audio system, you can listen to music on your smartphone as FM radio.

Wired audio output

It is also equipped with a 3.5mm audio output. It is located on the front of the unit (windshield side) where it is easy to hide the wiring. If you want more stable and high quality sound, we recommend a wired connection.

If you want to use the HUD separately from your car audio, you can also connect a small separate speaker to this port.

Bluetooth audio output (sold separately)

Although we do not support this, you can also output Bluetooth audio by connecting a commercially available Bluetooth transmitter to the 3.5mm audio output as shown in the photo above. Not only music but also navigation and voice assistants can be used without any problems. Power can also be supplied simultaneously from the smartphone USB port on the HUD body.

*We do not provide support for connecting a Bluetooth transmitter to car audio, so please check the respective instructions and connect it yourself.

Hands-free phone too

Nowadays, people make fewer phone calls, but it is still necessary from time to time.
Especially when picking up someone by car, there are many times when you want to confirm the location by phone.

With the HUD-2023, it's easy.
Just tell a voice assistant such as Siri to "call XX" and you can make a call right away. There's no need to look up the other person's number from a list. Hands-free calling is easy.

*The microphone is built into the HUD, and audio comes out from the connected car audio speaker.

Easy voice control

Operation with voice assistants such as Siri is also easy. Just press the voice command button on the remote control to launch Siri or Google Assistant in one go.

You can also call Siri with "Hey Siri," but the way Siri works is that it uses the smartphone's microphone even when you're using CarPlay. For this reason, if you leave your smartphone in your bag, it may not respond.

However, you can activate it with a single press of the voice command button. After that, you can use Siri with the microphone built into the HUD.

Compatible with both iPhone and Android

The HUD-2023 is compatible with both iPhone and Android.*
Either smartphone can be used wirelessly (using both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi) or by simply connecting it to the HUD's USB port with a cable.

*For iPhone, you need a smartphone that supports CarPlay, and for Android, you need a smartphone that supports Android Auto. The compatibility status is as follows (as of July 2022).

CarPlay is compatible with the following iPhones:

• iPhone 5 and later

Android Auto is compatible with the following Android smartphones.

• A smartphone with Android 11 or later installed.
  *Even if you connect wirelessly, you must first connect the HUD to the USB port (this is an Android Auto specification).

*Please update your smartphone's OS before use.
*We recommend using a newer smartphone, as smartphones that are more than 2 years old will have deteriorated batteries and slower performance.

What are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?

This is a standard established by the OS manufacturers Apple and Google to ensure that smartphone functions can be used properly while driving.

Unlike a simple mirroring of a smartphone screen, the screen layout and user interface have been optimized for driving , allowing all operations to be performed using only the remote control and voice, without the need to touch the screen .

In addition, video and game apps that are inappropriate for driving cannot be used, allowing you to concentrate on driving without being distracted .

By complying with these standards, the HUD-2023 allows you to use smartphone functions appropriately while driving. For details about Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, please check the official information from each OS manufacturer.

Note: The features and apps offered differ significantly between iPhone and Android. The features themselves are also subject to change from time to time with OS updates.

Large projection screen

The screen is made of large acrylic. The image is enlarged and projected from the TFT LCD like a projector, and is overlaid semi-transparently on the driver's field of vision.

The projection screen is slightly curved, like a concave mirror, which makes the image appear to be magnified and projected farther than it actually is , making it easier to read the information on the screen while keeping your eyes focused on the road.

The screen is foldable and designed to be unobtrusive when not in use. The angle of the base can be adjusted, so you can change the orientation to make it easier to see even after installation.
The main unit is equipped with a light sensor that automatically controls the brightness of the display according to the environment. The display is easy to see during the day, at night, and in tunnels.

*The brightness is set to the lowest when the device is started, eliminating the problem of the device being too bright and dazzling when started at night, which was a problem with previous models.

Privacy-preserving design

Imagine this. What if you
were driving with your family or partner and suddenly got a call or LINE notification from someone of the opposite sex
, and it was displayed on the CarPlay screen? What if you tried to search on Google Maps and the name of the restaurant you went to last night was displayed on the CarPlay screen as a search history?

This kind of thing actually happens with the large touch panel Carplay/AndroidAuto that comes with the car. What's more, there is even a possibility that your passengers may operate the Carplay touch panel without your permission while you are driving.
Even if you have nothing particularly sinister to do, it's normal for your smartphone to have one or two pieces of information that you don't want others to see.

The HUD screen has a narrow viewing angle due to the aforementioned concave mirror structure, making it difficult to see from anywhere other than the driver's seat
. It is especially impossible to see from the passenger seat. This means that there is very little risk of passengers being able to see the information on your smartphone . In addition, it can only be operated by the driver, as it is a remote control on the steering wheel. You can use it with peace of mind without worrying about your passengers.

"I sometimes want my passengers to input destinations into the navigation system."
No problem. Smartphones are wireless, so you can just hand them the smartphone and have them input the destination when the time comes.

No tools required, anyone can install it

Installation is very easy.
It is powered from the cigarette lighter socket, so no special construction is required.
Just attach it to the dashboard using the adhesive sheet on the bottom of the unit.

Q. There are few flat areas on the dashboard. Can I still install it?

A. To install, simply attach it with the adhesive sheet on the bottom. The base is made of soft silicone rubber, so it can be attached to curved surfaces to some extent. The adhesive sheet is not made of glue but of a new material called nano suction*, which sticks to rough surfaces such as leather and does not melt or become sticky when heated. Simply wipe it clean with water and it can be reattached as many times as you like.

*It attaches to the surface using countless ultra-fine, invisible suction cups.

The base can be rotated and the angle can be adjusted forward, backward, left and right, and it can also be installed in an inclined position as shown in the photo below.

The base can also be removed as shown in the figure below , so depending on the installation location, you can fix the main unit directly with commercially available Velcro tape without using the base.

You can see the HUD display without any problems by adjusting the angle and direction, even if it is not directly in front of the driver's seat, but to the side as shown in ③ and ④ in the figure below.

Q. My car's dashboard is small, so I'm worried I won't be able to install it.

A. When you receive the product, first check that you can install it by placing it temporarily without removing the adhesive sheet under the base . If the product is unused (unused adhesive sheet under the base, complete with accessories, no scratches, dirt, damage, etc., and in a condition that can be sold as new) within 7 days of arrival, you can return it. However, you will need to pay the return shipping fee. If you wish to return the product, please contact the support address listed in the manual.

EVA stabilizer for vibration control

To counter vibration, an EVA sponge stabilizer is included. By supporting the HUD body and dashboard with this sponge, vibration of the HUD is suppressed and a stable display is achieved.
